Earth Studies
Earth Studies
We, the human race, are becoming more sensitized to the needs of the planet and its environs. With this in mind, many places are offering vacations with a difference. A place and time to learn what we are able to do to lessen the impact we make on the earth itself.
Some places even offer courses up to master's level for those men and women interested in ecology. Many of these places are running farms capable of sustaining themselves as well as those in the local community.
All fruit and vegetables, for an example, are grown without the use of chemicals and sometimes without the use of machinery! - a very 'hands-on' approach not usually seen in this day and age.
One of these ventures in particular is trying to re-introduce the concept of local men and women connecting to the food supply being grown literally in its own backyard instead of buying everything in plastic bags at the supermarket.
Accommodation is sometimes on the farm itself or in the local community giving the holiday-maker a chance to revisit rural America in a rather unique way. Children are given a small taste of what life was like before computers and designer labels took over.
This may not be everyone's dream holiday, indeed it may take some kind of persuasion from parent to child, but I am not able to help feeling that we have to take a chance, perhaps once in a while, to experience something completely different. This is certainly one for the more adventurous amongst us!

Dude Ranches And Fine Wine
These terms may sound as if they are at odds with one another but both are on offer, and in the same place, in the United States.
Gone are the days when dude ranches were the place to go to get down and dirty with the horses. These days? You are able to ride out and do all those 'horsey' things like rounding up cattle and helping with the branding, but when the day is over you are going to find what is on offer is far removed from the franks and beans from days gone by.
Gourmet dinners served with fine wines are the order of the day. What better way to ease those aching muscles and tired bones after a hard days riding than to be pampered by fine dining and excellent service?
Today's urban cowboy demands more than your old time cowboys. Imagine you have spent the best part of the year cooped up in an air conditioned, environment controlled, building dealing with noisy telephones and tight deadlines.
What better way to get away from it all than to spend the day under deep blue skies, riding the range, and coming home not to a camp-fire although I am sure they are going to be there! but to exquisitely cooked food and perfectly chilled wine?
The kids are able to come too! There are many ranches that cater for the youngsters with riding lessons thrown in. Let them help with mucking out and feeding the young animals. They are going to love it!

What You Need to Pack for Your Hawaii Vacation
Are you preparing for your upcoming trip to Hawaii? If your vacation is within the next few days, you may be getting ready to start your packing. When doing so, do you know what you should bring? If not, now is the time to find out. After all, there is nothing worse than arriving at your vacation destination only to learn that you left something important at home.
The most important thing for you to pack is a form of identification. In fact, you should never leave home without a form of identification. If you have a state issued driver's license that should do. If not, a picture identification card is recommended. This can be a recent work identification card, college identification card, or a picture card issued by your state. Even though a passport is not required to travel to Hawaii, if you are coming from the United States, a form of identification is a must.
All important health and medical related information should be packed as well. For starters, make sure you bring all health insurance cards with you. This is important, as it can be frustrating stuck in an unknown emergency room with your important documents thousands of miles away.
In addition to health insurance cards, there are other medical and health bases that you should also have covered. What about prescriptions? Do you take daily medication? If so, it may be a wise idea to create a backup plan with your doctor in the event of an emergency. Would they be available to call or fax in a prescription for you should you misplace your medication? Would they be willing to write an extra small prescription, in the event you lose your medication on your trip? Some physicians will do, but the medication will likely only be enough to get you through your trip.
Are you planning to make reservations for a Hawaii car rental or have you already done so? If so, what is required of you? As previously stated, you should bring your driver's license with you. Most Hawaii car rental companies require proof that you are able to legally drive in the United States. Proof of car insurance may also be required or at least recommended.
Of course, it is important to pack clothes for your trip. When doing so, be sure to check the weather forecast for your Hawaii destination. This allows you to pack accordingly. When packing your clothes, it is important to keep fees in mind. There are many airlines that now charge an additional fee for a second bag of checked luggage. If you gain access to a washer or dryer, it may be best to pack light and quickly wash your clothes.
In addition to clothing, it is also important to pack items and supplies that are used for recreational activities. Hawaii is known for is great beach activities. These activities include sunbathing, swimming, boating, fishing, surfing, and snorkeling. If you plan to participate in these activities, you will need to bring a swimsuit and a beach towel with you. Even if you opt for land based activities, like hiking, camping, or horseback riding, comfortable clothes and sneakers are recommended.
It is also important to pack a small amount of toiletries. To save you time, as well as reduce problems at airport security checkpoints, travel size toiletries are recommended. Most department stores sell these convenient travel sizes.
Deodorant, shampoo, soap, and toothpaste is recommended. Although your hotel or vacation resort may provide you with some small toiletries, there are no guarantees. And, these items are often expensive to purchase in popular vacation destinations.
The above mentioned items are all must haves that you should bring with you on your next trip to Hawaii. To help ensure you are fully prepared for your trip, you should create a luggage checklist for yourself. Check off each item as you pack it and you should arrive at your destination with everything you need.

Queen And Country
If you are itching to do something different this summer vacation, why not consider a 'once in a lifetime' holiday to England?
Historical sites are in abundance, with several of the Queen's residences in easy reach of central London. Most have sections open to the public and offer a unique insight into the history of her ancestors.
Art galleries, theaters offering the latest and best stage shows, nightclubs, casinos, London has everything including the 'London Eye' a huge wheel housing bullet shaped carriages for twenty or so men and women to view the London skyline both by day and night. These are even rented out for cocktail parties and weddings!
London also boasts one of the best local transport systems in the world and it is very easy to 'pop-up' all over London in a relatively short time by using the underground railway. It is a great way to avoid the traffic jams also!
But England is more than just London. Take a trip out to Oxford or Cambridge, the towns housing perhaps some of the most famous colleges in the world. It is like stepping back in time with the ancient buildings still in use after hundreds of years.
Many Britons now offer a 'home-stay' type of holiday where you are able to stay with a family or perhaps the holiday swaps where you go to a families home whilst they come to yours.
This sounds a bit dangerous but there are agencies set up to monitor this and it is becoming increasingly popular.

Holidays With 'Me' In Mind
The kids are staying with the grandparents, the summer is here, and you have two whole weeks of nothing in front of you. What do you do?
A truly superb treat for yourself is to try out a spa vacation. Take time to recharge those batteries and get back in touch with you and/or your loved one.
This is able to be a time to kick back, leave your worries at home and be rejuvenated by the many treatments available. How about a specialized massage with sweet smelling oils followed by a fruity facial? Then off to the sauna to sweat out those toxins that have been accumulating all year.
There are virtually hundreds of these spas all around the world and most have something unique to offer. Perhaps your idea of 'recharging' your batteries is to lie in a hammock reading a good book whilst sipping exotic drinks from a coconut.
Or perhaps you would like to nibble on mangoes and papaya after the early morning yoga session? Whatever your desire, it is on offer.
Choosing this type of holiday may be one of the best decisions you ever made. If your life is full of stress and who does not have that kind of life these days this is able to be the time you take for yourself to evaluate and consider where your life is leading you.
It may seem a little self indulgent but did not you work so hard this year? Go on you deserve it!
