Bike Tours – A New Way to See New York City

Bike the Big Apple is a new and growing trend for visitors to New York City. Experiencing the busy city in a totally different way is what many sportive visitors desire. So why would you choose a bike tour in one of the biggest and busiest cities on the planet? There are many reasons why people try to experience the big apple from the bike, but one of the most common is to see the city from a local point and see sights beyond the regular NY city trip.

New York City bicycling tours come in many forms and ways. From shorter Central Park biking tours over longer tours including bridges and neighborhoods in New York. Getting yourself on a bike in your vacation is a healthy way to keep fit and can be much more fun than seeing the city from the inside of the car. Fresh air, sounds and scenes are much closer than when sightseeing with the car. Using a bike to get to places also means in New York City that you will not be stuck in New York’s busy streets and traffic jams. Parking in New York City is expensive and can easily go to thirty, forty or more dollars a day. When traveling the Big Apple by bike, these costs can be drastically reduced. Bicycles can be parked for free in many spots very close to sights and other attractions and generally it is very hard to get a ticket for wrong parking or speeding on a bicycle.

Many places offer guided tours for bicycling through New York City. A guide can lead you safely through the city and offer his knowledge about the sights. A good guide can tell you about the diversity and specialties of certain neighborhoods show you how many New Yorkers reach their jobs and also show you the ins and outs for bicyclists in New York. One advantage of bicycle tours through the Big Apple is the coverage of a large area and many sights in a short amount of time. If you are thinking you will loose the flair of a walk through New York that is just not the case. You are still connected to the streets and the people when traveling on your bicycle.

When deciding to take a bicycling tour through New York, you need to decide whether you want to bring your own bike or rent one in New York.

Central Park, for example, offers a big rental station for bicycles to supply eager customers with their wheels. Since you are most likely to only spend a few days, max a week of discovering New York City on two wheels, a rental is in most cases a better choice. The hassles of transporting a bicycle to New York and back home are often just as expensive as renting a bicycle and it is not easy to transport your bicycle from farther away cities or even overseas. But on the other hand, when renting a bike, it might not be of such high quality than the one you are used to or handling is harder than usual. But for a short tour as well as for a week long tour through New York rented bicycles do the trick.

Whether it is a family trip or a single person’s trip in New York, many guided tours offer something for every taste and if participating in a group cycling tour through the city it does not matter if you are single or with a group, you will have fun and be amazed what the Big Apple has to offer seen from a bicycle.
